Summary of the Role

The Quality Control Associate (QCA) will directly report to the QA Manager.  The QCA’s main responsibility is inspecting and sampling incoming cannabis (flowers and non-flowers) to ensure quality monitoring is in strict compliance with the Cannabis Regulations and Good Production Practices (GPP). The incumbent will take care of Retention samples, sending the samples out to the Contract Labs, receive the results and conduct relevant follow ups. Participate in the destruction process and reviewing logbooks


Ensures that all inspection, sampling and testing activities are carried out in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and cannabis regulations

Enforces procedural and GPP requirements including health and hygiene, gowning, sanitation and documentation practices

Places release/hold or reject stickers onto the materials/product

Collects and tests appropriate samples

Performs environmental verifications and checks

Conducts testing in-house for selected packaging components

Reviews the warehouse documents

Updates the Software (Ample organics and 365 vertical) in a timely manner

Participates for the destruction process to represent QA

Updates SOPs when required

Gets involved with identifying defects, AQL etc.

Reviews certain quality documents e.g. warehouse activities for receiving and shipping

Conducts review of product identification, certificate of analysis/conformance and any other records. related to incoming cannabis and non-cannabis materials

Reports any discrepancies during inspection or sampling

Assists in investigations for deviation reports and complaints

Coordinates calibration, maintenance and pest control activities

Manages archiving of Retains i.e. Health Canada samples

Communicates with third party testing labs for progress on testing results and turn-around times

Assists Manufacturing Quality Associate and QA Specialist when required

Transcribes results and ascertains the material meets the specification

Wears appropriate PPEs and follows SOPs

Performs other duties as assigned by QAM and/or QAP

Successful Applicants will have (qualifications and skills)

BSc. in Chemistry, Biology, Pharmacology, Food Science or Microbiology.

1-2 years of working experience in a food, pharma, cannabis environment.

Basic knowledge of Good Production Practices (GPP) and/or Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) is preferred.

Strong ethics coupled with respect for the highest compliance standards.

Problem-solving and decision-making skills.

Computer proficiency including MS Office.

Excellent communication skills.

Working Environment, Physical Conditions and Capabilities

Able to perform repetitive tasks for long periods (i.e., sampling, weighing product, and regular inventory) while maintaining a high level of attention to detail.

Able to lift 20lbs, sit and/or stand for extended periods and reach with arms/hands. Walking, standing, bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, lifting, pushing, pulling and moving items is occasionally required.

Exposure to packaged cannabis products/supplies.

May be noisy at times and temperate

Exposure to dust, fine particles, gasses under pressure and flammable materials.
